Wicker Furniture Care

If you are the proud owner of wicker furniture, then you know how it can really add to the decor of your home. Wicker is very appealing, decorative and attractive to the eye. It deserves to be cared for properly so that you will get years of use from it.

In wicker furniture care, you should always keep your furniture clean. Vacuum when needed with a soft brush, and always vacuum in the direction of the individual reeds so as not to tear the wicker. In between vacuuming, you can lightly go over the furniture with a soft cloth to keep dust and dirt from building up on it.

Should your furniture need a little bit more cleaning than just dusting or vacuuming will provide, a mild soap and water solution can be used to wipe down the wicker and remove any marks that might be on it. Be certain to wipe off any solution residue thoroughly with a dampened sponge and then dry your wicker with a soft, dry cloth.

If you find dirt getting trapped in crevices of your wicker furniture, you should go over your wicker with a soft paintbrush to dislodge anything that might be trapped in those hard-to-reach places. A soft toothbrush may also do the trick.

Wicker does have a tendency of drying out if it is kept by any type of heat source, so your wicker furniture care should include not placing your wicker by heat, such as a radiator or fireplace.

Wicker that is outside should not be kept in direct sunlight for any length of time, as this can also dry out your wicker and cause it to fade. If you do notice your wicker getting brittle and dry, you might want to rinse it off with clear, fresh water from your outdoor hose, which will add back some of the moisture it has lost. After rinsing, dry it gently with a soft cloth.

In wicker furniture care, be certain to immediately wipe up any spills that may occur. You do not want to let any spilt substances dry on your wicker. If the spill is sticky, use a mild soap and water solution, clean up the spill immediately, and dry with a soft cloth. In that way, you will keep your wicker furniture always looking fresh and new.

If you have any bamboo furniture, do not use the hose to rinse it off. Just clean with a mild soapy solution, rinse off with a dampened sponge, and then dry with a soft cloth.

Wicker furniture care can also include putting a finish on your wicker to protect it even further. A varnish or shellac that is safe for wicker furniture will do a nice job of giving your wicker a protective finish while allowing the beauty of the furniture to show through. It can also be painted.

Take good care of your wicker, keep it clean and it will grace your home with beauty and style for years to come.

Hi Temperance, stopped by to see what you are up to and I see that you wrote a hub on how to take care of wicker. That is a good idea as it is important to take care of it, to make it last.

Great hub - wicker takes a lot of care, at the the ones that are made out of reeds.
