Wicker furniture is a beautiful type of furniture that is made by the weaving together of hard plant materials. The making of wicker baskets is an ancient practice and through time and today it is also used to make many types of furniture. There are several different types of plant materials that can be used to make wicker furniture including rattan, willow and bamboo.

Wicker furniture is sturdy yet very comfortable to sit in and looks very nice when it is used as outdoor furniture because the natural materials used to make the furniture echoes the grasses and natural surroundings. When buying wicker for outdoors, it is important to know if you are buying weather resistant wicker or not.

Some wicker is made for only indoor purposes while other wicker is made with protective sealant so that the rain and sun will not damage the furniture. Wicker is really a very beautiful choice for outdoor furniture as it looks more organic and natural than furniture crafted with manmade materials.

Wicker can be used as outdoor furniture and due to the technologies that can refine wicker to make it look even sleeker it is now being used as indoor furniture as well. Wicker can be made into all types of seating including chairs, chaises, couches, loveseats, rocking chairs and benches. The wicker itself can be a bit rough to sit on in its natural form so it most people prefer to place cushions upon the seats of wicker furniture to make it a bit more comfortable to recline on.

Wicker is also made into tables that can be used outdoors, coffee tables, and even large dining tables. There are even entire dining sets that are made out of wicker. The tops of wicker tables can also be a bit uneven because they are made of a woven material so it is a common practice to cover the top of the table with a sheet of glass so anything sitting upon the table will be balanced enough not to fall over. 

Wicker grows from grasses in nature and the color palette of the wicker usually ranges from tan to dark brown. One style of wicker furniture is painted white and looks very much like natural lacy lattice. The styles of white painted wicker seats and tables usually have more curves and rounded edges. This style almost looks as if it belongs in a Victorian Garden, but there are also more modern, sleek and streamlined designs that look contextual in a minimalist eco friendly household.

Some styles of wicker furniture are also mixed with other materials like metal to give them more structure and differentiation in texture. The frames of dining chairs are often made of metal or wood while the seat and back of the chair incorporate the wicker element.
